other	6 Apr 1867	Charles Baverstock was the lock keeper and toll collector at the site in 1867. His son, George Baverstock, was the miller for a number of years. At the age of 23 on 6th April 1867, George set out before daylight to walk all the way to Petworth (about 9 miles). He had a mission. other		The young miller neatly attired himself for the big occasion in a clean white round frock, beautifully smocked in the Sussex style. When nearing Strood Green, his nose started to bleed and much to his consternation this completely changed the appearance of his white frock. Upon arriving at Petworth, the Registrar, George Wells, looked askance at the groom and remarked `Have you two had a quarrel on the way here?` ----
